Shots Fired, Man Down

Today was shot day. Not a day we have been looking forward to... obviously neither has Leah. We decided to spend some time shopping on Island first. It was our first day of really nice weather. The high was supposed to be 72, but actually made it to almost 80. I'm not exactly prepared for weather this nice so it was a little warm. But, along with most of the Chinese people, Leah wore her winter coat all day. Unfortunately, great day or not, we forgot to bring our cameras along. So no photos of the day on the Island, just the end of our day.

Once the shopping was done, it was time to go to the medical center and get the shots. Unfortunately, we were also a little afraid of her TB test results. The area of the shot was red and measured about 1.5cm. We knew this wasn't usual so we had visions of Jon having to stay in China for 3 months while Leah got put on antibiotics. Well, her TB test was positive so we had to get a chest x-ray. Fortunately, that was clear. Next hurdle, the shots. Leah was a trooper, but she was deathly afraid of the shots. She began crying on shot number 3 of 5. She made it through, and at the end said that only one shot hurt. I guess when the tension builds up for 2 days, it doesn't actually matter if the shot hurts, just that it happened.

Earlier in the day, we had lunch with a family that was in China adopting two 2 year olds. Their 12 year old daughter came with them on this trip and wanted to get together with Leah. At lunch we made some plans to get together tonight so they could hang out. As an aside, at lunch, Leah joined a hacky-sack game in the park behind Lucy's. She did OK until she kicked the hacky-sack pretty much onto someone's plate of food. At least our girl knows when to call it quits because she came back to the table right after that.

When the other family came to our room, the girls immediately started playing and laughing. I could write about what they did, but it's really easier to see it in pictures so enjoy.

Before I end, Jon and I just have to thank everyone for their comments and emails. We can't tell you how much it means to get the prayers, the encouragement, and support from everyone back home.
